چکیده

Until now, the focus has been on agents that act rationally. Often, however, rational action requires rational (logical) thought on the agent’s part. To that purpose, portions of the world must be represented in a knowledge base, or KB. A KB is composed of sentences in a language with a truth theory (logic), i.e. we (being external) can interpret sentences as statements about the world. (semantics) Through their form, the sentences themselves have a causal influence on the agent’s behaviour in a way that is correlated with the contents of the sentences. (syntax) Interaction with the KB through ASK and TELL (simplified): ASK(KB,α) = yes exactly when α follows from the KB TELL(KB,α) = KB’ so that α follows from KB’ FORGET(KB,α) = KB’ non-monotonic (will not be discussed)

Equality propositional logic and its extensions

We introduce a new formal logic, called equality propositional logic. It has two basic connectives, $boldsymbol{wedge}$ (conjunction) and $equiv$ (equivalence). Moreover, the $Rightarrow$ (implication) connective can be derived as $ARightarrow B:=(Aboldsymbol{wedge}B)equiv A$. We formulate the equality propositional logic and demonstrate that the resulting logic has reasonable properties such a...

Truth Values and Connectives in Some Non-Classical Logics

The question as to whether the propositional logic of Heyting, which was a formalization of Brouwer's intuitionistic logic, is finitely many valued or not, was open for a while (the question was asked by Hahn). Kurt Gödel (1932) introduced an infinite decreasing chain of intermediate logics, which are known nowadays as Gödel logics, for showing that the intuitionistic logic is not finitely (man...

Explaining the Level of Human Thought in the Parallel Civilizations Based on Formal Structure and Visual Imagination Formed in Mythical Narratives

Myth, like any other form of narrative, has an undeniable role in visual imagination based on the foundations of mythical thought. Ernst Cassirer, by recovering the fundamental principles of mythical thought, brings against them to the foundations of contemporary rational thought and defines the fundamental features of mythical thought as compared to modern rational thought. He also believes t...

Knowledge Representation and Reasoning

McIlraith & Allin, CSC384, University of Toronto, Winter 2018 Knowledge Representation (KR) • This material is covered in chapters 7– 9 and 12 (R&N, 3rd ed) (chapters 7—10 (R&N, 2nd ed) ). • Chapter 7 provides useful motivation for logic, and an introduction to some basic ideas. It also introduces propositional logic, which is a good background for first-order logic. • What we cover here is mai...

A More Rational View of Logic, Or, Up Against the Wall, Logic Imperialists!

Although we concur with many of Nils’s other assertions, this propositional doctrine seems far too extreme: a lot of interesting and important AI research is done outside of the logic-and-theorem-proving paradigm.’ Indeed, the view that other lines of inquiry serve only to produce tools that may be procedurally attached to an AI (logic-and-theorem-proving) architecture seems a kind of Logic Imp...
